Brazil intensifies measles vaccination in São Paulo after three cases confirmed

After the São Paulo state health department issued an epidemiological alert following three laboratory‑confirmed measles cases in the capital, local authorities launched expanded vaccination efforts. In the city of São Paulo, the municipal health secretariat began offering a “dose zero” of the measles vaccine to children aged 6 months to 11 months and increased clinic hours to vaccinate all eligible residents, while continuing routine immunisation at all 482 health units.

In the coastal municipality of Ubatuba, the local epidemiological surveillance team urged residents to check their vaccination status and attend public health units for the triple‑viral (or tetraviral) vaccine. Coverage for the first dose this year is 88.6 % and for the second dose 61.9 %, down from the previous year’s 94.9 % and 87.8 % respectively. Health officials stressed that full vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent further spread of the highly contagious virus.
