Brazil health authorities manage avian influenza and rabies outbreaks
Health authorities in Brazil are managing several localized disease outbreaks and vaccination efforts. In Rio Grande do Sul, highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in subsistence birds in Selbach. The state government has initiated surveillance in 68 properties within a three-kilometer radius of the site. Officials noted that this occurrence does not affect the country's status as free of avian influenza for commercial poultry, and there is no risk in consuming meat or eggs.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, Campo Grande has recorded its 13th case of rabies in a bat this year. The Municipal Health Secretariat is emphasizing the importance of annual rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats to prevent transmission to humans.
Meanwhile, in Paraná, the state has returned to a level of normality regarding respiratory syndromes following a sustained decrease in severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases and deaths. In other regions, such as Campinas and Goiânia, local authorities are conducting vaccination campaigns for influenza, COVID-19, and other preventable diseases to maintain community immunity.
