Brazil investigates two separate deaths of young children
Two separate incidents involving the deaths of young children have been reported in Brazil.
In Acari, Rio Grande do Norte, a 23-month-old boy died after being found in a bucket filled with water. Medical staff at a local health unit attempted resuscitation, but the child was pronounced dead. The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte have isolated the residence for forensic examination to determine how the child accessed the container.
In Senador Rui Palmeira, Alagoas, a man was arrested following the death of a two-month-old infant. The child arrived at a health unit already deceased, showing signs of hematomas and a possible leg fracture. While the parents suggested the injuries might have resulted from falls, police have taken the father into custody pending further investigation. The mother, who is a minor, was released.
