Brazil invests R$ 131 million in fiber optic expansion

The Brazilian Ministry of Communications is investing R$ 131 million from the Telecommunications Services Universalization Fund (Fust) to expand internet access across 45 municipalities in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Paraná.

The project involves installing approximately 1,700 kilometers of high-capacity fiber optic cable and providing new modems to 189 locations. This initiative aims to enable 19,000 new connections and improve residential infrastructure in 14 municipalities, benefiting roughly 49,800 households.

BNDES is managing the resources and has approved credit for Zaaz Telecom, a connectivity company under the Waiken ILW holding, to begin construction. Additionally, BNDES approved R$ 26 million in financing for equipment, modems, and working capital to support the expansion of broadband, fiber optic, and mobile telephony services.
