Brazil telecommunications infrastructure expansion

Overview

The Brazilian Ministry of Communications is implementing various initiatives to expand telecommunications and broadcasting infrastructure across the country.

Initial efforts focused on a R$ 131 million investment from the Telecommunications Services Universalization Fund (Fust) to expand fiber optic connectivity. Managed by BNDES, this project involves installing 1,700 kilometers of high-capacity cable across 45 municipalities in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Paraná, aiming to provide 19,000 new connections.

Subsequent measures have targeted digital television access. In Mato Grosso do Sul, several municipalities received authorization for the retransmission of digital signals to improve coverage. Additionally, the Brasil Antenado program has begun providing free satellite antenna installations to eligible families in Roraima to ensure access to over 100 channels.
