Rio Grande do Sul Smart Health Complex to modernize SUS with R$ 1.9 billion investment

The Brazilian Ministry of Health has launched the structuring phase for the New Smart Health Complex of the Grupo Hospitalar Conceição (GHC) in Rio Grande do Sul. Supported by an investment of R$ 1.9 billion, which includes participation from BNDES, the project aims to modernize and integrate the infrastructure of several facilities, including Hospital Fêmina, Hospital Criança Conceição, Hospital Cristo Redentor, and the Obstetric Center of Hospital Nossa Senhora da Conceição.

The initiative seeks to incorporate advanced technologies into the Unified Health System (SUS), such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, telemedicine, and remote monitoring. Key features include an ‘Intelligent Emergency’ system with real-time integration with SAMU units, automated protocols, and AI-driven management of beds, exams, and patient flows.

Health Minister Alexandre Padilha stated that the project aims to bring cutting-edge connectivity and data access to healthcare professionals to speed up diagnoses and treatments. The restructuring will prioritize maternal and child health, adolescence, acute trauma, and complex clinical and surgical conditions, while integrating care, teaching, research, and innovation.
