Brazil advances digital infrastructure and connectivity initiatives

Brazil is advancing several digital infrastructure initiatives. The Ministry of Communications aims to finalize the regulation of Redata, a tax regime designed to stimulate data center investments, by the end of the year. While legislative approval has been secured, officials are currently addressing fine-tuning details regarding energy requirements.

To promote digital inclusion, a R$ 73 million investment approved by the Ministry of Communications and BNDES will expand 4G and 5G coverage to 131 locations, specifically targeting favelas and peripheral neighborhoods across eight states, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Bahia. This project involves installing 120 new towers and 94 radio base stations to improve connection stability and capacity.

Additionally, a bill is under review in the Chamber of Deputies to establish a National Policy for High-Speed Internet in Public Schools. The proposal seeks to provide free, high-quality internet access to all basic education public schools, prioritizing rural, indigenous, and quilombola communities.

At the Futurecom 2026 event, leaders discussed the importance of digital transformation, cybersecurity, and the role of the state in ensuring equitable access to technology.
