Brazil Justice Ministry and Conar tighten digital ad rules amid betting influencer case
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) and the National Council for Advertising Self‑Regulation (Conar) signed a six‑month cooperation agreement to strengthen oversight of digital advertising in Brazil. The pact creates a direct channel for the National Consumer Defense System to forward questionable ads to Conar’s ethics council, focuses on influencer‑sponsored content, especially targeting children, adolescents and seniors, and has already led to the removal of about 700 illegal betting advertisements.
Separately, a judge of the Federal District Court lifted the secrecy of a public‑interest lawsuit filed by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office against influencer Virginia Fonseca and betting operator Blaze. The court ordered the parties to cease promoting gambling ads that promise guaranteed profits and warned of possible fines up to R$ 2 million, sending the case back to a lower court for a merits ruling.
