Brazil kidnappings lead to murders of scrap yard owner and São Paulo businessman

Giliard Alencar de Aguiar, a 39‑year‑old scrap‑yard owner, was kidnapped from his home in Garapa, Feira de Santana, Bahia, by men posing as police. He was shot multiple times and found dead on a road a few kilometres from his house. Police recovered 13 .40 caliber shells and noted his prior criminal record involving vehicle theft and drug‑trafficking investigations.

Marcelo Magalhães de Almeida, a 31‑year‑old businessman, was abducted in Carapicuíba, São Paulo, after being lured from a bar. He was later discovered dead near the Cotia River and his body was layed out for a funeral in São Paulo. Investigators say he was forced to transfer R$ 8,000 to his captors. Four suspects are linked to the crime, including alleged mastermind Lucas “Quadrado” Soares de Lima, his brother Paulo Sérgio, and friend Júlio César Moura Batista; three are detained while one remains at large.
