Brazil launches anti‑crime offices in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro

The federal government will open two National Anti‑Faction Offices (Escritórios Nacionais Antifacção, ENA) in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro this month. The offices will be coordinated by the National Public Security Secretariat (Senasp) of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and will focus on financially choking organized crime groups, especially the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho, and on curbing illegal arms trafficking.

The ENA are part of the "Brazil Against Organized Crime" program, which earmarks R$ 1 billion to equip state security structures and makes R$ 10 billion available through BNDES loans to states. Each office will comprise three branches – general coordination, operations and intelligence, and institutional articulation – and will integrate federal, state and municipal police, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and other agencies. They will also support initiatives such as the Integrated Committee for Financial Investigation and Asset Recovery (Cifra) and the Captura program that targets high‑risk criminals. The government plans additional offices in Fortaleza, Manaus and Foz do Iguaçu in the future.
