Brazil expands debt renegotiation options for MEIs

The Brazilian federal government has announced an expansion of debt renegotiation options for microentrepreneurs (MEIs), rural producers, and other groups. A key new component is the ‘Desenrola MEI Pequeno Valor’ program, designed for debts up to five minimum wages (approximately R$ 8,105). This modality requires a 5% down payment, offers a 50% discount on the remaining balance, and allows installments for up to 55 months. The program is scheduled to run from October 1, 2026, until January 31, 2027.

Additionally, the government has extended the deadline for the existing ‘Desenrola MEI’ program, which covers debts up to R$ 20,000, until January 29, 2027. This program allows for up to 100% reductions in interest, fines, and legal charges, though the principal amount remains due.

Other measures include specific renegotiation opportunities for debts owed to federal autarchies and foundations (such as ANTT, DNIT, and Incra) for amounts up to R$ 8,105, and a general transaction for individuals and companies with debts up to R$ 45 million. The initiative is a joint effort by the Attorney General's Office (AGU), the Ministry of Entrepreneurship (MEMP), and the Office of the Attorney General of the National Treasury (PGFN).
