The Ministry of Health has approved the use of a “dose zero” of the triple‑viral measles vaccine for children aged 6 months to 11 months and 29 days in São Paulo and Guarulhos after three imported cases were identified in children under two years. About 100,000 doses will be dispatched to the two cities to strengthen protection in areas with higher transmission risk.
The measure is part of intensified surveillance, active case finding, contact tracing and vaccination blocking in the affected neighborhoods. Brazil remains classified as free of endemic measles, but authorities have warned of increased exposure risks ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, given rising case numbers in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The initiative is coordinated by the Ministry of Health, the São Paulo State Health Secretariat and the municipal health departments of São Paulo and Guarulhos.
