Brazil launches electric bus services in Brasília and Vitória

In the Federal District, the Secretariat of Transport and Mobility began operating the first 12 of a 90‑bus electric fleet on four routes serving about 25,000 passengers daily. The buses, imported from China, feature low floors, air‑conditioning and zero emissions, and are expected to expand to a total fleet that will carry roughly 70,000 riders a day and cut CO₂ emissions by about 615 tonnes each month.

In Vitória, Volkswagen’s e‑Volksbus will be tested on select city streets to evaluate performance on the local terrain and passenger flow. The 22‑tonne vehicle offers up to 250 km range, regenerative braking and flood‑protection features. A BNDES investment of R$150 million will fund 50 electric buses and charging infrastructure for the Transcol system, aiming to serve 610,000 passengers daily, create 205 jobs and avoid roughly 3,400 tonnes of greenhouse‑gas emissions per year.
