Brazil launches ID issuance posts in Indigenous schools and Itamarati settlement

The State Secretariat of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp), together with the State Secretariat of Education (SED), is setting up new Identification Posts to issue the National Identity Card (CIN) in four public schools serving Indigenous communities and the Itamarati settlement in Mato Grosso do Sul. The locations are Aldeia Jaguapiru in Dourados, Aldeia Te’yikue in Caarapó, the Indigenous State School Pastor Reginaldo Miguel – Hoyenó’O in Aquidauana, and the district of Nova Itamarati in Ponta Porã.

The program aims to decentralise civil‑identification services, allowing residents who previously faced long travel distances to obtain an official ID closer to home. The first‑issue card is free and valid nationwide. Scheduled outreach includes a July 30 session in the Itamarati district and a July 31 session in Jaguapiru (Dourados) and Te’yikue (Caarapó).
