Brazil's Move Brasil program launches vehicle financing for gig workers

The federal Move Brasil program began offering credit on 27 July 2026 for app‑based delivery riders, motorbike‑taxis, taxi drivers and other transport workers. Eligible participants must register on the gov.br portal, have at least six months of activity on the same platform and a minimum of 100 rides or deliveries. The scheme finances up to 100 % of the purchase price of motorcycles, mopeds, ciclomotores or electric bicycles that are manufactured in Brazil from 2024 onward, with a maximum credit of R$ 20 000 per person.

Banks Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil provide the loans with monthly interest rates of 0.90 % for women and 0.97 % for men, repayment periods of up to 48 months and a 60‑day grace period before the first installment. The public guarantee fund (FGO) backs part of the credit risk, allowing lower rates. Early uptake has been modest; government officials now expect less than one‑third of the allocated resources to be disbursed.

The program aims to modernise fleets, reduce operating costs and promote domestically produced, often electric, vehicles for millions of gig‑economy workers.
