Brazil launches national DNA collection campaign for missing persons

Brazil has launched its fourth National Mobilization for the Collection of DNA from Relatives of Missing Persons. The campaign, which runs from Monday (24) to Friday (28), involves hundreds of collection sites across various states and the Federal District.

Participants can visit local technical police units to provide genetic material. To participate, families must present a police report (Boletim de Ocorrência) and undergo a brief interview to provide details about the missing individual. The collected genetic profiles are uploaded to a national database, allowing for comparisons against unidentified living or deceased individuals found in different regions or states.

The initiative aims to strengthen the national database to increase the chances of identifying missing persons through genetic matching.
