Brazil launches nationwide 'Dia D' vaccination mobilization

Brazil is conducting a nationwide 'Dia D' mobilization as part of its Multivaccination Campaign to update immunization records for children and adolescents under 15 years of age. The campaign, which runs until September 1, offers 20 different vaccines from the National Immunization Program, including protection against meningitis, tuberculosis, and HPV-related cancers. A notable addition this year is the 20-valent pneumococcal vaccine (Pneumo 20), which provides expanded protection against pneumonia and meningitis for children under 5.

Health Minister Alexandre Padilha emphasized the importance of recovering childhood vaccination coverage. The Ministry of Health has already distributed over 180 million doses this year to support national efforts. In response to rising measles cases in the Americas and imported cases in Brazil, authorities have also implemented indiscriminate vaccination strategies for individuals aged 6 months to 59 years in specific regions, including São Paulo, Guarulhos, and São Bernardo do Campo.

Additionally, the country is addressing other health concerns, such as malaria, where the introduction of tafenoquina into the SUS has contributed to a significant reduction in deaths and severe cases. In border regions, coordinated efforts between Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru are also underway to conduct canine and feline rabies vaccination campaigns to prevent human transmission.
