Brazil expands women safety services in São Paulo transport and Santa Catarina consumer agency

São Paulo has extended its protection network for women using public transport. The "Abrigo Amigo" project places digital panels at night‑time bus stops, allowing women to start a video call with a central monitoring team from 20:00 to 05:00. Trained operators watch the feed, provide emotional support and can summon security or medical help. In the rail system, CPTM operates "Espaço Acolher" at 26 stations, offering a private refuge for victims, while the Metro runs Advanced Support Posts for Women at Santa Cecília and Luz stations during business hours. In Santa Catarina, the state consumer protection agency (Procon SC) began receiving reports of domestic and patrimonial violence against women. Staffed by newly trained personnel, the service records complaints in a neutral, discreet setting and forwards them to the Civil Police for action. Launched on 27 March, the channel aims to overcome barriers that prevent women from reporting violence directly to police, amid a national rise in femicides.
