Brazil limits heavy vehicles and adds red‑light detectors to improve road safety

The concessionaire of the Prof. Zeferino Vaz highway (SP‑332) in Campinas will close the km 112 return lane from 10:00 a.m. on 27 July until 31 July. Concrete barriers and reinforced signage will be installed after trucks and buses performed prohibited turning maneuvers at the access point. Heavy vehicles will be diverted to alternative exits and, when the lane reopens, only cars and motorcycles will be allowed to use it.

The Empresa Pública de Transporte e Circulação (EPTC) in Porto Alegre has deployed three new Detectores de Avanço de Sinal at high‑traffic intersections, bringing the city’s total monitored points to eight. The devices record speed and red‑light violations to curb the main cause of fatal accidents identified by the city’s traffic‑safety program. Existing speed limits remain unchanged, and the locations are public on Waze and the agency’s website.
