Brazil grain production projected to reach record 361.7 million tons

Brazil is projected to achieve a record grain harvest for the 2025/26 season. According to estimates from the National Supply Company (Conab), production is expected to reach 361.7 million tons, representing a 2.6% increase over the previous cycle. This growth is driven by an expansion in planted areas, which have risen by 1.7% to approximately 83.5 million hectares.

Key crop projections include a record soybean harvest potentially reaching 180.4 million tons and corn production estimated at 144 million tons. However, some sectors face challenges; wheat production is projected to decline by 27.1%. The agricultural landscape is also being influenced by the El Niño phenomenon, which has brought varied weather patterns, including dry conditions in the Center-West and excessive rainfall in the South.

Regional developments include increased irrigation in Bahia for cotton production and strategic corn stockpiling in Mato Grosso do Sul to mitigate supply risks. While mechanization is increasing productivity, it is also shifting the labor market, reducing direct field employment in favor of agro-industrial and technical support roles.
