Brazil concludes national vaccination campaign amid São Paulo measles rise

Brazil's 2026 National Multivaccination Campaign has concluded, with the Ministry of Health reporting over 8 million doses administered nationwide. The campaign, which targeted children and adolescents under 15, included the first-time offering of the Pneumococcal 20-valent vaccine.

Simultaneously, the state of São Paulo is facing a measles outbreak, with 28 confirmed cases recorded in 2026. The majority of these infections, including 25 cases in the capital, are concentrated in the metropolitan region, specifically in São Paulo, Guarulhos, and São Bernardo do Campo. Health authorities noted that 20 of the confirmed patients had no record of prior vaccination.

In response to the rising cases, the state administered more than 2.5 million measles vaccine doses during August. While the mass vaccination campaign has ended, health officials emphasize that vaccines remain available through the Unified Health System (SUS) and recommend that residents check their vaccination records at local health units.
