Brazil Ministry of Justice raises age rating for Elize Matsunaga film

Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security has reclassified the Netflix film ‘Elize: Sombras de uma Mulher’ from a 16+ rating to a restricted 18+ rating. The decision follows a technical analysis by the General Coordination of Indicative Classification Policies.

The reclassification was prompted by the identification of extreme violence, including scenes of intentional death, mutilation, the exposure of corpses, and blood. The ministry also cited sexual content and inappropriate language as factors making the content incompatible with younger audiences.

The film dramatizes the true story of Elize Matsunaga, who was convicted of murdering and dismembering her husband, businessman Marcos Kitano Matsunaga, in 2012. Netflix has been notified of the change and has up to five days to update the rating on its platform.
