Brazil moves to raise MEI revenue ceiling to R$130,000

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is holding a seminar in Belo Horizonte on 23 June to discuss Project PLP 108/2021, which proposes raising the annual turnover limit for Microentrepreneur Individual (MEI) from R$ 81 000 to R$ 130 000 and permitting the hiring of a second employee. Deputy Domingos Sávio will coordinate the event, which brings together lawmakers, business leaders and civil society to refine the proposal before a vote in the Chamber.

Finance Minister Dario Durigan confirmed that the federal government intends to submit a phased amendment that would reach the R$ 130 000 cap by 2028. The plan aims to expand access to the Simples Nacional regime, but officials warn it could reduce federal revenue by about R$ 50 billion annually, making the fiscal impact a key concern.
