Brazil municipalities face August and July deadlines for education funding and data reporting

Municipal education secretariats in Brazil must submit the documentation required for the VAAR (Valor Aluno Ano por Resultados) component of Fundeb by August 31. The filing, done through the Ministry of Education’s Simec system, confirms compliance with conditionalities such as democratic management and curriculum alignment, including the new BNCC Computing supplement. Failure to meet the deadline could disqualify municipalities from receiving the 2027 Fundeb complement.

Separately, all Brazilian municipalities and the Federal District have until July 19 to complete the third edition of the National Portrait of Early Childhood Education (2026). The questionnaire, also accessed via Simec, gathers data on the demand for preschool slots and is supported by MEC manuals, FAQs, and a technical help channel. Although participation is voluntary, the data are essential for a national diagnostic of early childhood education provision.
