Brazil municipalities implement infrastructure measures amid heavy rains
Municipalities in Brazil are addressing infrastructure challenges caused by heavy rainfall. In Itabirito, the local government is implementing new slope containment measures, such as gabion walls, to mitigate the risk of landslides and erosion before the most intense rainy season arrives. Since the major floods of 2022, the city has constructed over 40 containment walls and improved river drainage systems.
In Conceição de Macabu, heavy rains have rendered the São Henry road impassable due to mud and deep ruts, despite recent maintenance efforts. Local residents report that the road conditions are hindering access, particularly for students attending a nearby school. While the municipal government continues maintenance on various rural roads to support agricultural flow, officials are working to address the specific deterioration of key access routes.
