Brazil municipalities launch rabies vaccination campaigns
Municipalities in Brazil are conducting rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats to prevent the spread of the disease.
In Gurupi, the vaccination campaign has been extended until October 17. To date, approximately 7,500 animals have been immunized, reaching about 63% of the 11,910 animal target for urban and rural areas. Officials noted the importance of increasing coverage due to recent rabies cases recorded in Brazil. Vaccination is free for animals aged three months or older and must be performed in person at the Zoonoses Control Center.
In Angra dos Reis, health authorities are working to distribute a stock of 20,000 doses. Following a ‘Dia D’ event that immunized 2,638 animals, mobile teams will visit various neighborhoods throughout October and November. The municipality aims to reach its 20,000-animal goal over the next two months. Owners with more than ten animals can request home vaccination services via telephone.
