Brazil municipalities launch rabies vaccination campaigns for pets

Municipalities in Brazil are conducting rabies vaccination campaigns for dogs and cats to prevent the spread of the disease to humans.

In Manaus, the campaign is scheduled to run until November 30, covering both urban and rural areas. As of October 1, teams had already immunized 2,356 animals across 29 rural communities, including locations along the BR-174 and AM-010 highways. The initiative, coordinated by the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) and executed by the Dr. Carlos Durand Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ), also includes vaccination efforts in riverside communities along the Rio Negro.

In Campo Grande, health authorities are reinforcing vaccination efforts through fixed locations and door-to-door visits. Fixed points are established in the Coophatrabalho, Santa Emília, and Vila Popular neighborhoods. This action follows the recent confirmation of a 13th case of rabies in a bat within the Sargento Amaral region, highlighting the ongoing circulation of the virus in urban environments and the necessity of pet immunization to protect the human population.
