Brazil municipalities reconstruct bridges damaged by floods

Local governments in Brazil are completing the reconstruction of bridges damaged by severe flooding and extreme weather events.

In Rio da Ilha, two bridges in the Padilha Velha and Vila Teresa communities were officially delivered following a joint investment of approximately R$ 1.45 million from the Federal Government and the municipality. The Padilha Velha bridge, built with reinforced concrete, features a 16-meter span and is designed to support vehicles up to 23 tons. To prevent future flood damage, the new structure was built more than one meter higher than the previous version.

In Pelotas, the Secretariat of Rural Development has finalized the reconstruction of the Vó Ermina and Telécio bridges, which were destroyed by climate events in August. These repairs are part of a broader rural requalification plan to replace old structures with more resilient designs. Additional works are planned for other districts, including the Arco Íris bridge, to ensure safer access for local transit and machinery.
