Brazil conducts nationwide breastfeeding awareness campaigns

Various municipalities and health organizations across Brazil are conducting activities for ‘Agosto Dourado’ (Golden August), a campaign dedicated to promoting and supporting breastfeeding.

In Sinop, the local government is launching a Municipal Breastfeeding Plan to improve care for pregnant women and qualify primary health teams. Other regional efforts include educational courses in São José, community meetings in Nova Olímpia, and collective breastfeeding events known as ‘Mamaço’ in Parintins and Goiânia. In Teresina, the campaign includes a health run and a public fair to encourage healthy habits.

Professional networks, such as Rede Total Care, are also hosting scientific discussions involving doctors and researchers to address clinical challenges like necrotizing enterocolitis and the importance of colostrum. These initiatives aim to strengthen the support network for mothers, emphasizing that successful breastfeeding requires integrated care from multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, nurses, and nutritionists.
