Brazil betting prohibition halts R$ 600 million in daily transactions FAST-MOVING

The Brazilian government's prohibition of fixed-odds betting has significantly impacted the sector's financial flow. According to the Ministry of Finance, daily transactions to betting platforms, previously estimated at over R$ 600 million, have been largely halted. Since the implementation of the measure on September 26, user balances in betting accounts have dropped by 31%, falling from approximately R$ 2.1 billion to R$ 1.453 billion.

Authorities have identified 48 accounts with balances exceeding R$ 500,000, which are being analyzed for potential irregularities or money laundering. Additionally, Anatel has been requested to block 10,435 illegal betting websites identified between September 25 and October 1.

Regarding user funds, the government has established a strict timeline: bettors must voluntarily withdraw their balances by 23:59 on October 5, 2026. Following this, companies must report remaining balances to financial institutions between October 7 and 8. Banks are then scheduled to return these funds to users between October 9 and October 14, 2026. If restitution is not possible through banks, Caixa Econômica Federal will manage the resources starting October 14.
