Brazil online betting revenue doubles to R$12.2 bn in early 2026

Revenue from licensed online betting operators in Brazil jumped to R$12.2 billion in the first four months of 2026, double the amount recorded for the same period in 2025. The surge pushed federal tax collection from the sector to R$4.5 billion, up from R$2.2 billion a year earlier, a level approaching the monthly contributions of the tobacco and agriculture industries.

The Ministry of Finance has issued 85 corporate licences, enabling 187 legal betting sites. Ten brands control 68.8% of the market, with Greece’s Betano leading at 23% share. Industry leaders attribute the growth to broader social penetration and advertising, despite government and judicial limits on bets placed by social‑program beneficiaries and heavily indebted citizens. “It is a sector that is consolidating,” said Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of the ANJL association.

Analysts expect further expansion as the 2026 World Cup approaches. H2 Gambling Capital projects an additional R$20‑25 billion in new deposits from tournament‑related betting. H2’s Ed Birkin noted that the exact boost will depend on match outcomes.
