Brazil opens applications for National Council for Cultural Policy

Applications are open until September 22 for artists, cultural producers, and researchers wishing to run for seats on the National Council for Cultural Policy (CNPC). The election will determine civil society representatives for the 2026–2029 term.

Interested parties can register as either candidates or voters through the Vota Cultura platform using a Gov.br account. Voting is scheduled to take place online between November 11 and November 15.

The Council consists of 21 National Social Participation Colleges. Each college can elect up to 14 titular representatives and 14 alternates. To ensure diversity, the rules mandate representation from Brazil's five macro-regions, a minimum of 50% female participation, and affirmative actions for Black, Indigenous, and persons with disabilities.

To vote, individuals must be at least 16 years old and demonstrate experience in their chosen field. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, reside in Brazil, and prove at least three years of professional activity in the relevant cultural sector.
