Brazil opens FIES second‑semester 2026 applications until July 17

The Ministry of Education has opened the enrollment period for the 2026 second‑semester round of the Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (FIES). Applications are accepted online through the Portal Único de Acesso ao Ensino Superior from 14 July to 17 July, 2026, free of charge. The program offers more than 112 000 total vacancies for 2026, with 75 500 seats allocated to the second semester across 1 274 private higher‑education institutions and 28 741 courses/turns. Half of the slots are reserved for FIES Social, targeting students whose per‑capita family income does not exceed half a minimum wage and who are registered in the CadÚnico. Eligibility requires participation in the ENEM since 2010, a minimum average of 450 points, a non‑zero essay score, and a family income up to three minimum wages (R$ 4 863 in 2026). The selection result will be published on 30 July, followed by a complement‑ation phase (31 July – 4 August) and a wait‑list period (7 August – 24 September). The deadline applies nationwide, with state‑level allocations such as 8 085 spots in Minas Gerais and 958 spots in Mato Grosso do Sul.
