Brazil FIES deadline extended, enrollment underway

Entities: ENEM · Brazilian Government · Ministry of Education (Brazil) · Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (FIES)

Overview

The Ministry of Education kept the 2026 second‑semester FIES enrollment window open through 23:59 BRT on 19 July, confirming the earlier extension from the 17 July deadline. Applications continue to be accepted only via the Unified Access Portal.

On 30 July the Ministry announced that 75,500 slots are available for the second‑semester round, with the complementary registration period running from 31 July to 4 August and a waiting‑list call scheduled between 7 August and 24 September. Eligibility criteria remain unchanged: participation in at least one ENEM exam since 2010, a minimum average of 450 points, a non‑zero essay score and a family‑income ceiling of three minimum wages, with the FIES Social sub‑program reserved for low‑income students listed in the Cadastro Único.

In parallel, water‑service reforms proceed. The SAAE of Macaúbas, Bahia, continues its user re‑registration drive tied to the federal social‑tariff scheme, while São José do Rio Preto’s SeMAE‑MAE seeks a 6.30 % tariff increase, raising the residential rate to R$ 91.66. Municipalities such as Cocal do Sul and Caraguatatuba maintain fiscal‑relief programmes offering substantial discounts on debts, interest and fines.
