Brazil opens new Federal Institute campuses in Cotia and Mauá

Brazil inaugurated two new campuses of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology (IF) on Friday. In Cotia, the campus repurposes the former Europan building, with more than R$ 43 million from the federal government and additional municipal funding, and will serve over 1,400 students with technical, secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Mayor Welington Formiga highlighted the institution's role in addressing local skills shortages.

In Mauá, the IFSP campus received R$ 37 million from the federal government to renovate the former Fama building. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, via videoconference, marked the opening as part of a broader expansion that will bring the total of Brazil’s federal institutes to 799. The campus will initially offer courses in mechatronics, mechanical manufacturing, informatics, production planning, and pedagogy, aiming to train about 1,400 students within three years.

Both openings underscore the federal administration’s push to expand free public education and professional qualification across the São Paulo region.
