Brazil: Parauapebas extends tax deadline and municipalities urged to join debt program

The municipality of Parauapebas has extended the deadline for the 2026 IPTU single-payment tax installment to October 30, 2026. This extension is part of the ‘IPTU Premiado’ campaign, which offers incentives for taxpayers who settle their obligations on time. Eligible individuals and legal entities can participate in a prize draw for ten new vehicles, including eight motorcycles, one car, and one pickup truck.

Separately, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service has issued an alert regarding the Exceptional Installment Program for Social Security Debts (PEM 2025). Municipalities and inter-municipal consortia have until August 31, 2026, to join the program to regularize eligible social security debts. The total amount of eligible debts exceeds R$ 3 billion. The program was established following Constitutional Amendment No. 136 to facilitate debt regularization through specific conditions, including a 40% reduction in certain costs.
