Brazil police arrest gang members over attacks on officers in Maranhão and Goiás

In the state of Maranhão, police apprehended two suspected gang members in the municipalities of Bacuri and Cururupu. The suspects are linked to recent shootings aimed at police staff, including an attempted homicide of a police driver on 24 January and an assault on a police clerk on 18 March. Authorities seized a 9 mm pistol during the Bacuri arrest and placed the men under investigation for multiple crimes.

Separately, the Goiás Civil Police carried out coordinated raids in Uruana, Goiânia, Anápolis and Jaraguá targeting alleged members of the Comando Vermelho. The operation investigated a purported plot to attack prison police and rescue inmates. Searches uncovered firearms, ammunition, electronic devices, documents and cash, which will be examined for further leads.
