Águas Lindas de Goiás kidnapping: Woman rescued from captivity

A 24-year-old nursing technician, Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho, was rescued in Águas Lindas de Goiás after being held captive for five days by her former partner, Ailton Rodrigues de Souza. Police discovered Carvalho restrained with handcuffs, ropes, and iron chains inside a house that had been secured to prevent escape. Investigators believe the kidnapping was premeditated, noting that the suspect had recently rented a house and changed vehicles to facilitate the crime.

Carvalho reported that the suspect lured her to a meeting under the guise of discussing matters regarding their two children, after which she was incapacitated. She alleged a history of domestic violence, including previous attempts on her life and property damage. The case has gained international media attention due to the dramatic nature of the rescue.

The Public Ministry of Goiás stated that previous requests for protective measures for Carvalho had been denied due to what officials described as a lack of concrete evidence linking the suspect to specific prior incidents. Ailton Rodrigues de Souza was arrested in flagrante and remains in custody as authorities investigate charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, and potential sexual assault.
