Brazilian police arrest dozens in drug raids, cattle theft and joint border operation
Brazilian security forces carried out a series of operations across the country in late July 2026. In a coordinated effort with Bolivia, the joint "Operação Espelhada" on the Acre border resulted in the arrest of two Bolivian citizens transporting 1 kg of marijuana and the seizure of a motorcycle. In São Paulo, a man was apprehended for stealing 16 cattle valued at roughly R$ 58,400, with a shotgun, ammunition and a cellphone seized. Police in Alagoas’s Operation Protetor de Divisas confiscated a Glock 22 pistol with 45 rounds, a Taurus .380 pistol with 19 rounds, notebooks and smartphones. In Paraná, authorities executed arrest warrants in Apucarana, Califórnia and São Pedro do Ivaí, detaining suspects linked to drug trafficking and digital fraud. The Federal Police shut down an illegal gold‑mining site in Jacareacanga, Pará, seizing a hydraulic excavator, two shotguns, a truck and mercury, and arresting two men. Additional actions in Rio Branco, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão airport resulted in arrests, weapon seizures and the confiscation of illicit drugs and medication.
These operations illustrate a broad crackdown on organized crime, drug trafficking, illegal mining and violent offenses throughout Brazil, often involving inter‑agency collaboration and, in the case of the border raid, international cooperation with Bolivia.
