Brazil illegal firearms seizures

Entities: Police Civil of Alagoas · Polícia Civil do Paraná · Operação Protetor de Divisas · Gastão Vidigal · Paraná Police

Overview

The multi‑state crackdown on illicit firearms in Brazil continued through late July 2026. Building on the July 20 wave of arrests in Maringá, Dianópolis, Andradina, Botucatu and Guaíra, police carried out further high‑profile operations on July 26. In a joint “Operação Espelhada” with Bolivian forces on the Acre border, two Bolivian nationals were detained while transporting 1 kg of marijuana, and a motorcycle was seized. In São Paulo, a cattle‑theft suspect was arrested with a shotgun, ammunition and a cellphone after stealing 16 head of cattle worth roughly R$ 58,400. Alagoas’s “Operação Protetor de Divisas” confiscated a Glock 22 with 45 rounds and a Taurus .380 with 19 rounds, along with notebooks and smartphones. Paraná police executed arrest warrants in Apucarana, Califórnia and São Pedro do Ivaí, detaining individuals linked to drug trafficking and digital fraud. The Federal Police shut down an illegal gold‑mining site in Jacareacanga, Pará, seizing a hydraulic excavator, two shotguns, a truck and mercury, and arresting two men. Additional actions in Rio Branco, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão airport resulted in further arrests, weapon seizures and the confiscation of illicit drugs and medication. These coordinated raids reinforce a nationwide effort—spanning firearms, drug trafficking, illegal mining and organized crime—to dismantle illicit weapon holdings and related criminal networks across Brazil and its border with Bolivia.
