Brazil President Lula opens ten new federal institute campuses

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurated ten new campuses of the Federal Institute network across Brazil on 3 July. The sites include seven campuses in São Paulo, and one each in the states of Amazonas, Espírito Santo and Piauí. The openings are part of a broader expansion plan that allocates R$ 4.3 billion for more than 100 new campuses, creating roughly 11,600 new technical and higher‑education slots.

The ten campuses were built with a total investment of about R$ 206.6 million, of which R$ 196.5 million came from the New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC). Lula stressed that “education has no limit for investment” and called it a permanent priority for Brazil’s development. Education Minister Leonardo Barchini highlighted the integrated model that lets students progress from secondary to postgraduate studies within the same institution.

The new facilities feature classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sports halls and administrative spaces, aiming to strengthen professional and scientific training in their regions.
