Brazil enacts laws for women's football and healthcare quality
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has sanctioned two significant pieces of legislation in Brazil aimed at social and structural reform.
Law 15.522 establishes the development of women's football as a national priority. The law mandates that clubs with youth programs must maintain or create women's teams within 180 days. It also requires Football Corporations (SAFs) to include both men's and women's teams. The legislation aims to promote professionalization, wage equality, and maternity rights, while tasking the Ministry of Sport with implementing protocols to combat racism and violence against women in the sport.
Additionally, Law 15.524 creates a national strategy to monitor and evaluate the quality of healthcare services provided by the private sector. Under this law, Anvisa will define quality standards for hospitals and clinics. The law includes provisions for periodic evaluations and public disclosure of results. Institutions that fail to comply with these standards face daily fines ranging from R$ 5,000 to R$ 500,000. These quality standards also apply to public health facilities.
