Brazil President Lula Begins Preventive Radiotherapy After Scalp Cancer Removal

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva started a preventive radiotherapy regimen on 25 May 2026 at the Hospital Sírio‑Libanês in Brasília. The treatment follows the surgical removal of a basal‑cell carcinoma lesion from his scalp on 24 April in São Paulo. A medical note stated: “Após a retirada de lesão basocelular em 24/04/26, optou‑se por tratamento complementar com radioterapia superficial preventiva no couro cabeludo, que teve início nesta segunda‑feira.” The protocol calls for 15 short sessions, each lasting about two minutes, over three weeks. Doctors emphasized that the president will continue his daily duties without restrictions, with his health team led by cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho and doctor Ana Helena Germoglio. Lula kept his official schedule, including meetings with African leaders, while under medical supervision.
