After stepping away from covering the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he returned to public duties, including commentary for the tournament final and an appearance on “Domingão com Huck” where he reiterated that “information saves lives.”

Following a four-month hiatus, Roberto returned to his broadcasting duties at Globo on 12 August 2026. His return to the airwaves took place during a Libertadores match between Flamengo and Cruzeiro at the Mineirão stadium in Belo Horizonte. During the broadcast, Roberto expressed deep emotion while thanking his family, friends, and the network for their support, describing the experience as a chance to restart.
