Mato Grosso do Sul records 9,686 confirmed chikungunya cases
The health department of Mato Grosso do Sul released its epidemiological bulletin for the 28th week (published Thursday 23) reporting 12,803 probable chikungunya cases in 2026, of which 9,686 were laboratory‑confirmed. The disease has caused 28 deaths in the municipalities of Dourados, Bonito, Jardim, Fátima do Sul, Douradina, Guia Lopes da Laguna, Itaporã, Ponta Porã and Nioaque, with one death still under investigation, and 114 confirmed infections among pregnant women.
The same bulletin notes 4,718 probable dengue cases, 1,815 of them confirmed, and no dengue deaths recorded for 2026. In the previous two weeks, several municipalities reported low dengue incidence. The state received 241,030 dengue vaccine doses and has administered 223,322 doses, 201,349 of which were given to the target population of children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years. Health officials advise anyone with symptoms of dengue or chikungunya to seek medical care, avoid self‑medication and eliminate standing water that can breed Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
