Entities: Iagro (Agência Estadual de Vigilância Sanitária Animal e Vegetal) · Bonito · Secretaria de Estado de Saúde (SES) · Itaporã · Mato Grosso do Sul
Overview
In late July 2026, Mato Grosso do Sul’s health department reported a chikungunya surge. The July 23 bulletin listed 9,686 laboratory‑confirmed cases, 28 confirmed deaths across several municipalities and 114 infections among pregnant women. Dengue activity was also noted, with 4,718 probable cases (1,815 confirmed) and a large vaccine rollout targeting children aged 10‑14.
A week later, the July 29 update showed a modest rise to 9,729 confirmed chikungunya cases, while the death toll remained at 28 with an additional death under investigation. The number of confirmed dengue cases edged up to 1,828, including one dengue‑related death, and the vaccine administration figures were unchanged.
Authorities continued to urge prompt medical care for symptoms of either disease and to eliminate standing water to curb Aedes aegypti breeding.
