Brazil proposes national program to boost peanut production amid declining yields

Brazil is considering a new national program to bolster its peanut production sector. Bill 3062/26 proposes the creation of the National Program for the Development of the Peanut Productive Chain (Proamendoim). The initiative aims to increase productivity, improve quality, and expand international trade through specialized credit lines and financial support for infrastructure such as storage, drying, and renewable energy investments.

This legislative push comes as the state of São Paulo, which accounts for 80% of Brazil’s peanut volume, faces production challenges. According to the Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA), peanut production in São Paulo fell by 2.8% to 610,000 tons in the latest cycle. While average productivity grew by 6.4%, the planted area decreased by 8.7% due to declining prices in both domestic and international markets.
