Brazil pushes ahead with key road and BRT construction projects

In Esteio, Rio Grande do Sul, the viaduct on Avenida Celina Kroeff that will link BR‑116 to BR‑448 is 98% complete. Work was delayed by recent rains and no new delivery date has been set. The structure, whose main span was erected in 2013, remained stalled from 2014 until the state government and the municipality resumed construction in April 2025.

In São Paulo, the city’s BRT Radial Leste project has triggered new partial road closures on Avenida Alcântara Machado as part of a 120‑day construction phase. The reversible lane of the BRT corridor was re‑routed, and the 9.8‑km line will connect Terminal Parque Dom Pedro II with the Penha metro station. Officials expect the system to serve about 400,000 passengers daily and cut travel times between the city centre and the east zone by up to 50%. The project is funded with R$ 385.9 million from the municipal urban development fund.
