Casa do Saber expands digital education and connectivity in Brazil's Amazon
Binatural’s Casa do Saber, opened in the Vila Tessalônica community of Afuá, Pará, provides a hybrid learning center for roughly 1,000 residents. The space offers internet access, reading rooms, workshops on portable water filtration and hydroponic gardening, and supports local agriculture and income‑generation activities. CEO André Lavor said the project “materialises the vision of sustainable development through education and information,” while community leader Everson Carvalho highlighted increased literacy among children.
In parallel, the Grupo +Unidos “Rede Amazônia +Conectada” program trained over 2,700 people in Juriti, Pará, delivering basic and advanced computer courses, agricultural and business management lessons. Participants such as Josiel Melo da Silva and Adriane Barbosa dos Anjos used the skills to enrol in university and secure public‑sector jobs.
The Instituto de Desenvolvimento Tecnológico (INDT) formalised the “Amazônia Verde” project with European partners, aiming to deliver 4G connectivity powered by renewable energy to six riverine communities in the Lower Rio Negro. Funded by the EU’s Global Gateway programme, the initiative also includes telemedicine, digital public‑service access, and fire‑prevention technology from Nokia.
Together, these initiatives target digital exclusion, improve education, health, and economic opportunities for remote Amazonian populations.
