Brazil pushes update of Simples Nacional tax thresholds
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is reviewing Project Law Complementary (PLP) 108/2021, which seeks to raise the revenue limits of the Simples Nacional regime that serves micro‑ and small‑sized enterprises. A seminar in Feira de Santana, Bahia, organized by the Chamber’s Special Committee and joined by representatives of the trade sector, highlighted how outdated brackets penalise businesses and create “false growth”, prompting calls for a table revision tied to inflation.
Industry groups, including the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF), met with PLP relator Deputy Jorge Goetten to propose a permanent, inflation‑indexed update of the Simples Nacional brackets covering MEI, micro‑enterprises and small firms. Both the seminar and the ABF meeting emphasise the need for the tax regime to reflect current economic realities and to sustain employment and competitiveness for millions of Brazilian entrepreneurs.
